Cooper Movie ProductionsCooper, a low-budget independent film set to begin shooting in San Antonio, is paving the way with it’s efforts to become more environmentally conscious, incorporating a number of green practices in the production.

Cooper is a family movie about a grieving man who is comforted by a stray dog set to begin shooting in San Antonio this month. "When we experience tragedy, we lose ourselves for awhile, and we often need someone or something to lead us back to ourselves." Writer and director, Robin Nations, describes the film as one man's journey of self-rediscovery.

The San Antonio based production was recently inspired by the Producers Guild of America Green website and the sustainability report written for the film "Fair Game". After reading about their efforts, production manager, Scott Greenberg went to producers with the idea to take the set green.

"We want to show independent filmmakers that it is possible to make budget-friendly, environmentally conscious decisions within your production," says Greenberg.

A few of the green efforts which will be included in production are shooting entirely in a digital format, eliminating miles of film waste, using refillable BPA free aluminum bottles rather than disposable plastic water bottles, compact fluorescent bulbs for supplemental lighting and practicals, and corn-based biodegradable products for catering. Multiple recycling bins will also be available on set.
